Privacy

The purpose of this data is Public Health Compliance and Transparency.

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not track you across other sites or build a profile of you.
• We collect data solely to support environmental-health compliance and transparency.

• Anonymous to report. We never ask who you are to submit a report.
• We never store your exact location. Your precise position is used for a moment to check the wind, then discarded — what we save is only the half-kilometer grid square it fell in, which is exactly what the public map already shows. The distance and bearing we store are measured from that square, not from you, so nothing in our records can point back to a street address. Your exact coordinates appear only in the complaint email you send to the city yourself.
• You hold your identity. If you file a formal complaint with Denver 311, your name and contact details go into your own email to the city; we never collect or store them.
• Distinct-household hash. When you file, your browser makes a one-way hash of your address — the address itself never leaves your device — and our server re-hashes it with a secret key before storing it, so the stored value can't be matched against a list of addresses. That lets us count distinct households toward the 5-in-30 total without knowing where you live.
• Hashed IP, never the IP. To prevent spam and abuse, we store a one-way hashed fingerprint of your IP address with each report; it cannot be reversed to identify you, and we never store the IP itself.
• Anonymous usage events. We log aggregate events — for example, that a report was started or a submission failed — with nothing that identifies you, so we can tell whether the tool is working.
• Feedback. If you send feedback or a bug report, we store your message — plus the optional contact you choose to give, and your browser and the page you came from to help us reproduce bugs — only to read and act on it. We never sell it.

Terms of use

• Informational, not legal advice. York St. Vector helps you document and report odors. It is not a law firm and gives no legal advice.
• You file your own complaint. When you choose to file, the complaint is sent from your own email to Denver 311 — we do not submit anything to the city for you, and we can't guarantee the city receives or acts on it.
• DDPHE decides what counts. Whether a complaint counts toward an enforcement review is determined solely by the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment — not by this app or its wind-verification.
• Report honestly. Only report odors you actually experienced, and make sure what you submit is truthful. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you file.
• Provided “as is.” The tool comes without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from its use.
• Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado.
